Piano Tiles 2 is a single-player app launched on August 19, 2015 by Cheetah Technology Corporation Limited, which is the company where creator Hu Wen Zeng is from. The game is a sequel to Piano Tiles. The Kindle Fire version for the game is sparsely updated, as the last update there was from November 2015.

Although the game came out on August 19, 2015, its anniversary is celebrated on August 15.

Piano Tiles 2 has been developed using Cocos 2d-x, the package name for both IOS and android is com.kooapps.pianotiles2gp

In February of 2020, the game was removed from Play Store due to claims of data privacy violations by the company and intrusive ads being shown to the user.

About 3 and a half years later in 2023, Kooapps bought the rights to Piano Tiles 2 to be able to upload it again to Play Store and update it. All this was announced on the Piano Tiles 2 Facebook.

Post-release:[]

In Piano Tiles 2 official youtube channel, before the official release date of August 19, 2015, as of August 2023, there were 7 public videos showcasing a probably beta/unreleased version of Piano Tiles 2.

Three of the first videos were posted on the same date, same location on August 3, 2015, 16 days before the official release.

Changes:[]

Piano Tiles 2 is based a lot on Piano Tiles 1 (Don't Tap the White Tile), however, it has a much more modern design.

Instead of having only white background, black tiles, the game features much more variability such as long tiles, combo tiles, and an animated background: static light blue before the first , animated, darker blue in stars and pink in stars as well as (subsequent rounds).

The navigation is also easier to use, instead of having too many gamemodes, Piano Tiles 2 only "features" a few of them under Events, including the "timed mode", aka the Classical Challenge. The ability to customize your tile board (5x5, 6x6) is not present, leaving only the 4-segment board available.

The currency still remains the same, being orange music notes, which can be collected in gift boxes, upon level up, play of a song, or as rewards in events, missions or Lucky Spin. However the game also features 2 more currencies, including lives, diamonds. Lives are spent when playing a level with 1 life spent for normal levels and typically 2 lives for events. You will replenish your lives passively, around every 10-30 minutes, or you can purchase them with music notes or obtain them by watching ads, levelling up, opening gift boxes or finishing missions. Diamonds are the third currency as well as the rarest. They can be obtained by level up(citation needed), watching ads, finishing events or missions, the Lucky Spin, or purchasing them with real money or with Lucky Spin. Music notes and diamonds can be used to purchase special songs and diamonds can be used to purchase coins.

Lives were eliminated with the upload to the Play Store and App Store in 2023 by Kooapps.

Lives were re-added to the game in 2024 by Kooapps (Only Android).

Gameplay:[]

The first time you play Piano Tiles 2, there will be a short intro video played, saying Piano Tiles 1 has served over 300M users (the first version of PT2).

  • In the latest 2017 intro video, it claimed to have 242 composers with 726 songs, being top 1 in 158 countries and served 900M users(not sure including Pt1)
  • The picture that you see when opening the app also claimed to be top 1 in Play Store in 2015

After the welcome theme, the game asks you to try Little Star. There is no way to leave the intro screen except by playing the level.

The gameplay is simple: Do not miss any tile. As you play, you'll unlock more songs, level up, gain currency and spend it on consumable items or by purchasing songs outside of the levelling spectrum. For the tiles aspect of gameplay, there are:

  • Normal tiles, which you have to tap once. They then like all tiles, disappear. Appearance: black, Score: 1
  • Long tiles, which you have to tap the beginning and hold (you can release your hand after you manage to tap it as if it's a normal tile, therefore take a quick rest but as a drawback not get the full score from it). Appearance: black at the beginning, with a gradient switch to light blue, Score: varies by length
  • Double tiles, which are 2 normal titles in a line, always either in sections 1-3 or 2-4 (never 1-4 or 3-4/1-2), switching between them if there are multiple double tiles together. These are considered to be the hardest kind of tile. Appearance: black, Score: 4 per double tile
  • Combo tiles, which are large tiles taking up sections 2 and 3, containing a number in them. You have to press the tile as many times as the number specifies. Upon tapping once, the speed of the song will drastically reduce and the tile's number will reduce by 1, slowly increasing in speed both when idle and when pressing it. Be careful upon pressing it for the last time, as the speed of the song will instantly increase to what it was before. Score: Specified by the number on the tile
  • Slider tiles, which have about the same mechanic as long tiles but much different in appearance. You have to hold and drag your finger right and left, instead you have to slide your finger left and right. Once again, releasing early will not give the full score. Appearance: Yellow at the beginning with a gradient switch to hot pink, diagonal in shape, Score: varies by length
  • Accompaniment tiles, consisting of a long tile in section 1 or 4 and some normal tiles in a diagonal pattern in sections 3-4 or 1-2 respectively. All tiles need to be pressed but you can release the long tile early. Appearance: Long tile appears the same, but the normal tiles are blue with a white target symbol on them (possibly Black with a white target symbol with a recent font update), Score: Dictated by the long tile, the normal tiles don't give any score.
  • Burst tiles, which fall as hexagons in the center of the screen and upon pressing on them, "burst" into a set of normal (only) tiles which need to be pressed. Appearance: Burst hexagon - blue in the center with a gradient switch to green, yellow, orange and red as it moves outwards. Burst tiles - yellow with a gradient switch to a darker shade of pink. Score: Burst hexagon - 1, Burst tiles - 0.

If you miss a tile either by pressing too late or pressing on any other part of the screen above the tile, you will lose, but the game gives you a second chance to continue from where you lost. If an ad is ready, you can watch one for revival for up to three revivals. If ads are unavailable, you can use 1 Health Pack(citation needed for name) each time to revive. If these are unavailable, it'll prompt you to use Diamonds (1, 2 and 3 for each revival respectively) instead.

In the latest version, there can also be 3 boosts used for each song. The Shield automatically revives you if you miss a tile, pressing a few tiles for you, being used up in the process. The Decelerating prop, which upon chosen will prompt you to use it after a revival, being used up. The song will slow down considerably for an amount of tiles before creeping back up to normal speed. Finally, the Booster(citation needed for name) will quickly shuffle through the first part of the stage automatically and then will slowly speed up, prompting you to start pressing the tiles as you normally would.

In a level, there is no true checkpoint system as songs always start from the beginning after losing. However a song is separated into "checkpoints" dictated by and . Upon reaching a checkpoint, you gain 1 . Up to 3 can be received in the first round, with signaling the end of the round. After that, the song will loop back to the beginning but with a larger speed.

  • If it is the first time you play this particular song, coin tiles (normal tiles painted orange with an fouth note encased in a white circle in the middle) will appear in random spots, falling with the same speed the song ended. They can appear in 1, 2 or 3 segments simultaneously. If you miss any, you will not lose. This will not appear in any other round or subsequent plays of the level.
    • However, in the second round and onward, there are present boxes in the same row as a tile. Pressing on them stores them until the end of gameplay, in which the player is rewarded with hearts, diamonds and coins(citation needed). These will be present in any play of a level.

The crowns count is a little different. You get 1 at the point where you'd get the 1st in the 1st round. But you'll get the 2nd at the end of the 2nd round and the 3rd at the end of the 3rd round.

After reaching checkpoint, the song will increase in speed. After the 1st round ends, the song will increase in each of the 3 checkpoints regardless if you receive a or not, increasing in a constant speed.(citation needed)

List of songs:[]
